I was pondering the other day the judgment of God upon the people at Babel. Why did God judge these people? He judged them because they were prideful about their own identity. How did God judge them? He separated them into nations; ironically, into nations that would again become prideful about their own identity. The existence of separate nations is a curse and judgment from God upon our sin. How backward it is then for us to then boast in our nation over others.
This is where the gospel comes into play. God is reconciling through Christ what He separated (because of people’s pride) at Babel. The gospel is essentially international. To boast in one nation over another is essentially opposed to the gospel and it is in fact boasting that we have received the judgment of God. I have copied below a very important practical application of this truth.
